I am trying to decide if I want to drink beer or whiskey tonight. So far I am leaning towards getting a nice bottle of Templeton Rye. Legend says that Al Capone would get his whiskey from both Canada and from a Small distillery In Templeton Iowa. I don ’ t blame him one bit, it is some of the best rye whiskey I have had

I haven’t decided yet, I actually am going to a party. Either the Guinness I have at home or maybe some red stag if I go buy some. Might go buy some tsingtao beer too.

Templeton rye is phony as ****. It’s Bulleit Rye with a ‘flavoring compound’ added. It’s brewed, distilled, and aged at a contract distiller, then shipped to Iowa where they dump in the add-a-pack flavor and bottle it. Originally, I gave them a pass because setting up a distillery is capital intensive, but now it’s gone on long enough that it’s clear that it’s just a slick marketing scheme to make it seem ‘craft’ and give it the cache of prohibition. If you want a good Iowa spirit, if you can get Cedar Ridge Iowa Corn Bourbon, it’s 100% Iowa made. Essentially, Templeton Rye is a cheap BMW with M badges stuck on it.

Hahahah it’s been replaced. We walked in the store and my buddy goes I’ll take that galic ale. $170 keg for a party. Ex-Mil buddies in college with money are my favorite.

Beer is affordable here, so not really an issue (€2 for your run-of-the-mill Stella, ~€3.50 for a trappist).

Lol. I’ve a wine glass specifically for these ‘one glass’ days that holds just over one full 75cl bottle. I love it.

But love my beer glass more.

It sounds it but the vineyard is in the Burgundy region of France which is quite average for wine but some have excelled and either use their local area of vineyard name. This is one of those that really excelled. Chardonnay is not my go to French wine, that is chenin blanc. Though chenin blanc is getting harder to find in stores.

I heartily recommend this wine. I get it from a butchers just outside the city who are family owned and started locally back in 1914.

Hard to beat a good rye. I’ll have to keep an eye out.

And yes, Al Capone and his network of whisky smuggling tunnels is the only reason Moose Jaw, SK is on the map.

I’ve got a Uni Grande réserve 17 that I uncorked an restoppered last night I’ll end up finishing.

I was prepared to say just go enjoy your Templeton - but they’re one of the ones that deceive whiskey drinkers into thinking they actually make it. I have no problem with MGP supplying multiple “distilleries” with their Rye whiskey to sell under their own name but Templeton has gone pretty far to imply they actually make it, which isn’t cool.
